Vigil planned for bicyclist killed by garbage truck in Center City
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (WTXF) - PHILADELPHIA (AP/WTXF) -- A vigil is planned for a bicyclist who was struck and killed by a garbage truck in Center City on Tuesday.
The incident took place around 7:25 a.m. near 11th and Spruce Streets. The victim was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.
A vigil for the unidentified cyclist is planned for Wednesday evening. Supporters are hoping to bring attention to bicycle and motorist safety, with many calling for flex barriers, brighter street lines and curb extensions. The vigil is slated for 5 p.m. at 11th and Spruce Streets.
No other injuries were reported. It wasn't immediately known how many people were in the garbage truck when the accident occurred.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
