Burlington County woman charged with animal cruelty
Police in Burlington County have charged a woman with animal cruelty and other crimes after authorities allegedly found 20 dogs living in deplorable conditions at a residence in Shamong Township.
Detectives say Marissa Corbett, 39, was running a boarding and training facility on the property.
Police and health officials allegedly found multiple dogs with clear signs of abuse during an inspection of the property. Officials were reportedly overcome by the smell of animal feces and ammonia upon arriving to the home, causing many of the first responders to become dizzy and nauseous.
Five of the dogs were in critical condition and required emergency transportation. One of the animals later died due to illness.
The remaining dogs were taken to Burlington County Animal Shelter.
Corbett has been charged with one count of third degree animal cruelty, 19 counts of fourth degree animal cruelty and 40 counts of related animal curelty offenses.
