DA: Four face theft charges over $315K in turnpike toll debts

Four people were charged this week for allegedly failing to pay a collective $315,000 in tolls and fees.

According to the criminal complaint, top of the list was 36-year-old Jarrett Stiff of Warminster. He is accused of blowing through E-ZPass 2,264 times in 4 1/2 years--racking up nearly $128,000 dollars in tolls and fees--and not making good on them despite more than 4,500 collection notices sent.

"It's troubling. I think part of it was that they weren't held accountable for years. This went unchecked and now the Turnpike Commission, our office, and other district attorney offices across the state are cracking down on it," Bucks County Assistant District Attorney Jovin Jose said.

If you have unpaid tolls, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission wants to hear from you. People owing more than $2,000 could face felony charges.
