Family gets addition on home thanks to the kindness of others

Nether Providence Township, Pa. (WTXF) - A local family is getting the happiness they deserve. For years, the family has been cramped in a one bedroom then someone scammed them out of thousands of dollars.

FOX 29's Chris O'Connell has the story on how their lives improved with the kindness of strangers.

For the Brooks family living in close quarters is an understatement. Paul who is disabled and his wife, Janet, live with their two teenagers Christie and Paul Jr. Both kids live with autism. All of them live in a cramped one bedroom house in Nether Providence Township.

However, when the Brooks tried to build a new addition on their home they got taken. The contractor barely started the job before taking off with nearly $26,000. He was never prosecuted and as the seasons changed the family was left with just a concrete slab and empty bank account.

This week, 3 years after telling their story. The Brooks moved into their new two bedroom addition that has now doubled the size of their home.

The help came after Delaware County Councilman Dave White who saw their story on FOX 29. White owns a mechanical service company and rallied fellow tradesman to chip in time and money to build the Brooks new dream addition.

"I have a son that's disabled that's intellectually disabled, so I understand how difficult it is day-to-day sometimes," he said.

It took months, but everything from the architectural drawings, the foundation, the framing, roofing and painting were all done at no cost to the Brooks family.

The home now has a new bathroom. Each teenager with their own bedroom and mom and dad now get some space and privacy.
