Hank's Take: Palmyra noise issue

Palmyra police posted on Facebook that they've been getting noise complaints from residents about a racket they're hearing. Turns out, it's coming from the other side of the river in Philadelphia.

Several residents of a condominium complex in Palmyra confirmed to FOX 29 that they had indeed complained, and that the noise was loud enough to rattle glassware.

In Philadelphia, Pat Hagerty relaxes by the river and says he hasn't heard a thing. "If they're getting noise, then it's coming from their side because there ain't no noise on this side of the park."

Palmyra police add in their post that they're at a loss to know exactly where on the Philly side the noise is coming from. I couldn't add much help until this afternoon, when I met Bob Graham. He fishes at the Frankford Boat Dock and says a party held there each weekend is generating the noise. "I saw maybe a hundred people at the first one, maybe more at the second one."

Bob says that the music from the party is deafening, generated by custom speakers hauled to the site on trucks. "It's nerve-wracking in this general vicinity, even up north. I could feel it and hear it even though I had headphones on."

Palmyra police couldn't say exactly how many complaints they've gotten other than to say it was a significant number. The Boat Dock is in an industrial area, likely part of the reason that no noise complaints have surfaced in Philly - cities are loud, and towns like Palmyra are quiet. We'll find out if the over-the-top music returns this weekend.
