Police: 15-year-old girl, 35-year-old man shot dead near Wilmington, Del.
WILMINGTON, Del. (WTXF) - In New Castle County, a 15-year-old girl and a 35-year-old man were shot and killed early Sunday morning. Police are searching for their killer.
It was a grisly crime scene in Belvedere, just outside Wilmington. Two dead on a quiet street.
The glaring evidence something was wrong on Lloyd Street in Belvedere - the crime scene truck, a lot of yellow police tape and detectives going door-to-door.
"It's calm and quiet. It usually is. When I heard those gunshots, I thought they were fireworks," said neighbor Cielo Fonseca.
Definitely not fireworks, police say they were gunshots. Bullets flying in the middle of the night.
When police arrived, they found the teenage girl inside the car. She had been shot. And, the male, he was a short distance away, also shot.
"It's very upsetting. It's a lot of good people out here. Something like this happens, it's very upsetting," said neighbor Albert Anderson.
New Castle County Police say both victims died. 15-year-old Doris Dorsey was the daughter of the homeowner, and 35-year-old Vincent Dimenco was a friend of the homeowner.
"Doris used to go to Stanton Middle School with my brother. That's how we knew her. When I heard this, I kind of got a little frightened," Fonseca said.
New Castle County Police issued a statement about the double murder:
I want to ensure the residents of New Castle County that our officers and detectives are fully committed to solving this heinous crime. However, we need the help of the community. - Colonel Vaughn Bond, Jr.
"A 15-year-old kid, come one. I mean, life is gone and it hasn't even been lived a life. It's sad," Anderson said.
Police have released few details about the case. Though it doesn't appear to be a random shooting, they have not said whether they have any suspects.
There is a $10,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest.
