Police: Toddler dies in 'tragic accident' after being struck by driver in Havertown
HAVERTOWN, Pa. (WTXF) - A 2-year-old girl died in what police are calling a "tragic accident" Saturday after she was struck by a driver in a Delaware County parking lot.
Police say the toddler darted away from her mother and into a parking lot just 12:30 p.m. on the 800 block of Eagle Road. The girl then sat down as a driver was about to pull into the parking sdpace.
"Apparently, he didn't see the young child. As he pulled forward, he hit her," said Haverford Township Police Chief John Viola.
"I think the mother may [have been] yelling to stop. He may have turned, he may have just seen the child. We're still working through that," Chief Viola added.
The girl was transported to Lankenau Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
"The driver's very cooperative. He's devastated by what happened, obviously," explained Chief Viola.
No charges have been filed in the incident.
