Winter storm warnings, advisories issued for parts of the area Saturday

A winter storm is making its way through our area. The heaviest of the snow will fall south and east of Philadelphia, with some areas expected to see four inches or more of snow.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for southeastern Pennsylvania, while a winter storm warning is in effect for South Jersey and parts of Delaware.

Temperatures will be in the 30s, so it will be a wet snow. Snow will accumulate on grassy and untreated surfaces first. The system is expected to move offshore by the evening.

The storm may lead to tricky travel on Saturday. PennDOT is ready with 120,000 tons of salt on the ground across the five-county region. PennDOT says it has 250 trucks ready to work, easily shifting into plowing mode if needed. Brine is already down on many highways.

"Once the snow begins to fall, we'll begin salting and spreading to take care of the highways throughout the region," John Krafczyk said.
