Fire breaks out in three story building on 17th and Chestnut

Crews are responding to a fire near 17th and Chestnut, an area where stores were looted a short time before.

Crews battled a three alarm fire Saturday night at a multiple-story building in Center City.

Officials say the blaze happened sometime before 9 p.m. on the 1700 block of Walnut Street.

SkyFOX was over the seen Saturday night where crews experienced heavy smoke and large flames.

There was no immediate word on what sparked the fire. Officials say the area had been looted by rioters from the chaotic Center City protests.

One person was transported to Jefferson Hospital. The victim's condition is unknown.

The Philadelphia Fire Department reported the blaze was placed under control at 1:11 a.m.
