1 in critical condition after car crashes into tree in West Philadelphia

Police are investigating after one person was injured when a tree crashed into a tree in West Philadelphia.

One person is dead after a car hit a tree in West Philadelphia on Monday, authorities say. 

The crash happened on the 1000 block of North 48th Street at 1:45 a.m., according to investigators. 

Police say a 2016 Volkswagen was traveling north on N 48th Street when the driver, a 45-year-old man, lost control and struck a tree. 

He was transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 2:15 a.m. 

The crash remains under investigation. 

A car is totaled and one person is in critical condition after it crashed into a tree in West Philadelphia, police say. 

No further details have been released.
