RHAWNHURST (FOX 29) - Police say a 12-year-old boy has been charged in Monday's accidental shooting of a Montgomery County teenager inside a Rhawnhurst home.
The boy, who has not been identified, was charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangering and related offenses.
Shortly before 10:30 a.m., officers responded to the 2000 block of Glendale Avenue, where a 14-year-old girl suffered a gunshot wound to the face.
There was no answer at the Glendale Avenue home Tuesday where the 14-year old was shot Monday morning.
"You have a right to bear arms and all stuff, but you also have an obligation to protect those around you from hurting themselves," Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross said.
Police confirm to FOX 29, they're investigating possible criminal charges against the adult owners of the four guns taken from the home Monday, including the handgun fired into the face of the 14-year-old girl.
"You and I could go to the gun store now, buy our guns and leave them wherever we want in the house," Shira Goodman with CeaseFire PA said.
The leader of an area gun control group says there's no law in Pennsylvania requiring gun owners to lock and secure their weapons.
"Guns in Pennsylvania are sold with locks but you're not required to use it. You're not required to have a safe," Goodman explained.
On Monday, the grandfather of the alleged shooter told FOX 29's Joyce Evans that the guns were taken out because of the threat of a break-in.
"We kept it outside instead of inside. We didn't know what time they going to come and break the house," Naved Samuel said.
Sources tell FOX 29 that the grandfather is not the legal owner of the guns.
