17-year-old in 'extremely critical' condition after shooting aboard crowded SEPTA bus: police
A 17-year-old boy is fighting for his life after police say he was shot on a SEPTA bus Friday night in North Philadelphia.
PHILADELPHIA - A 17-year-old boy is fighting for his life after police say he was shot on a SEPTA bus Friday night in North Philadelphia.
Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department were called to the intersection of North 3rd Street and West Allegheny Avenue just after 6 p.m. for reports of a shooting.
Police say someone drove a 17-year-old boy suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to Temple University Hospital where he was placed in critical condition.
Inspector D.F. Pace told reporters at the crime scene that 30 people were on the SEPTA bus when the teen was shot by at least one shooter who fled the bus and got into a getaway car.
Police chased the car, which they later discovered was stolen, until it crashed into a parked car near 5th Street and Greenwood Avenue, where police say the driver bailed and was arrested.
Police say another person who they believe was involved with the shooting got out of the getaway car and ran from police. They are still searching for the suspect, who they say took off a black puffy jacket as he fled.
Pace said the gunfire from the shooting disabled the bus and engineers were working on repairs. Footage from the crime scene showed bullet holes in the bus windows, but investigators are unsure if the gunfire was from inside or outside the bus.
