2 avid Eagles fans meet by chance through social media, tie the knot
PHILADELPHIA - Judy Adams never could’ve imagined that her social media post about a missing Philadelphia Eagles flag in her Arizona neighborhood’s Facebook group could’ve led to wedding bells, but it did for neighbors, Kathryn and Felix Cervantes.
Felix shares, "I posted the Eagles fight chant [and said] ‘If I find the flag, I’m gonna keep it! E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!’ And then she chimed in, ‘I can hear that.’"
Kathryn explains, "We spent three weeks messaging play-by-play because the Phillies were in the playoffs and the Eagles were killing it."
Their first date: November 2022. They went out to watch a Phillies playoff game.
Two years later, they tied the knot.
Kathryn, a Temple University graduate, was born and raised in Bensalem, and relocated to Arizona for work.
Felix became a Philly sports fan while working as a police officer in Cecil County, Maryland years ago. Felix’s daughter, now a teen, was wrapped in a McNabb jersey shortly after birth. His late Saint Bernard was named Swoop. Felix and Kathryn’s homes are decked out in Philly sports gear. Their wedding theme on Saturday, of course, more of the same.
"We picked our wedding date based on Phillies and Eagles schedules," shares Kathryn.
Philly sports fans - a breed all their own.
Kathryn says, "We don’t mess around. We are angry when they’re not doing well."
A big win over Dallas on Sunday was the perfect way to kickstart a happy marriage.
"We kinda met our match. We’re both a little crazy about it, and so you have someone who is just as passionate as you are," says Kathryn.
The couple says their strong faith, super Philly fandom and, of course, social media bred a beautiful love story. One that Judy is thrilled to have inadvertently facilitated.
"What a fluke. What a crazy story…and I’m so happy for them!" Judy exclaimed.
