2 dead, 5 hurt in Philadelphia shootout: police

Investigators say at least 70 shots were fired during a shooting Tuesday night that left two people dead and five hurt.

Two people are dead and five injured after a mass shooting in Fairhill.

The shootout happened in the 3200 block of Fairhill Street Tuesday night, around 8:30, officials said. The call came as shots fired and as responding officers arrived, they found multiple victims.

Police transported four people to Temple University Hospital while two other victims were transported to Temple via private vehicle. Another victim was treated at Einstein Medical Center.

Of the five men injured, two are 33 years old while the others are 19, 30, and 34. All were placed in critical condition, but are expected to survive.

Two males sustained multiple gunshot wounds to their bodies and were both pronounced dead at Temple.

The deceased victims were later identified as Roger Marquez, 31 and Leon Pierre, 38.

Investigators believe the shootout could be narcotics related. They were working to piece together the timeline of events leading to the violence. Officials do think all seven victims were intended targets. Police did find multiple weapons at the scene and at least 70 shell casings. Some of the victims were being held as prisoners in the hospital.

In addition, at least two properties were hit with gunfire. Police checked on residents and found no injuries.

An investigation is underway.
