3 sought in Southwest Philadelphia shooting of man, grandchild: police

Investigators believe the shooter’s vehicle is connected to an organized group of car thefts from major car rental companies at Philadelphia International Airport. Law enforcement sources tell FOX 29 that the same vehicle is linked to a deadly shooting last week on South Front Street in Society Hill that claimed the life of a 35-year-old.

A vehicle stolen from a rental car business near Philadelphia International Airport is believed to have been used in at least two shootings, including one that injured a grandfather and grandson.

Authorities on Saturday evening were called to the intersection of Passyunk Avenue and S 61st Street for reports of a shooting near a gas station that left more than 50 spent shell casings.

Police reported a 5-year-old and 71-year-old were stuck by gunfire when a white Kia with Florida tags pulled up behind their vehicle and opened fire as they turned into the gas station.

The child's father was not injured in the shooting, according to police. The child suffered a graze wound to the shoulder and his grandfather was critically wounded by a gunshot wound to the back.

Grandfather, grandson injured after shooting in SW Philly

A 5-year-old boy and his grandfather were both shot inside a car at a gas station in Southwest Philadelphia Saturday. Police say more than 50 shots were fired.

The shooter's car was found abandoned by police a short distance away from the sight of the shooting, according to police. The car was reported stolen earlier this year from a rental business.

Days after the shooting, police publicly identified three suspects who they labeled ‘armed and dangerous’ and could be responsible for multiple violent crimes.

Amir Johnson, 19, Antwan Grimes, 21, and Keon Smith, 22, are being sought by the detectives from the Philadelphia Police Department's Shooting Investigation Group.

Law enforcement sources tell FOX 29 that the same Kia used in Saturday's shooting is linked to a shooting last week on South Front Street in Society Hill that claimed the life of a 35-year-old.

It's not clear if Johnson, Grimes, or Smith are considered suspects in the deadly shooting.

"We know, in the city here that cars are taken and used in other crimes," Captain James Kearney from the Shooting Investigation Group told FOX 29.

Investigators further said that people in the community who they talked "are aware of these males" and they "don't want them around there anymore because they're up to no good."
