5-year-old boy dies after being hit by pickup truck in Northeast Philadelphia

A 5-year-old boy was killed after he was hit by a pickup truck in Northeast Philadelphia. The driver remained at the location after the child was struck.

The driver of a pick-up truck that fatally struck a 5-year-old boy Wednesday night in Northeast Philadelphia told police the child ran in front of his vehicle just before the deadly collision. 

Authorities said a 46-year-old man was driving a Chevrolet Silverado south on Eastwood Street just before 6 p.m. when the 5-year-old was fatally struck.

The child, identified by police as Kenai Rodrigues, was taken to St. Christopher Hospital where he died just before 7 p.m.

A family friend said Kenai was excited because his dad had just pulled up and he wanted to go and greet him.

The driver of the vehicle, whose identity has not been released, stayed on the scene following the deadly crash and cooperated with investigators.
