Child, 5, severely injured after chain-reaction car accident in Bridesburg: police

A 5-year-old boy is fighting for his life after police say a multi-vehicle accident occurred in Philadelphia’s Bridesburg neighborhood Monday night.

Preliminary information provided by Philly police says three out of four cars were involved in the incident which happened just before 9:20 p.m. near Aramingo Avenue and Wakeling Street.

According to police, the striking vehicle was traveling southbound on Aramingo Ave. when it hit at least one or more of the cars involved, causing a chain reaction car accident.

Police believe the striking vehicle was driven by a 30-year-old woman. Her 5-year-old son was also in the vehicle, and suffered severe trauma to his head, police say.

Medics took the child to St. Christopher’s Hospital where he is in critical condition.

One of the vehicles that was stopped was occupied by a man and his 6-year-old daughter. Both are shaken up, but not injured, according to police.

This is an ongoing investigation.
