75 Philadelphia Police Department recruits graduate from academy
The next generation of police officers are off to serve Philadelphia as 75 recruits graduated from the academy. Now, they head to tackle Kensington.
PHILADELPHIA - Dozens of recruits joining the Philadelphia Police Department will be thrust into duty after graduating from the academy on Monday.
The graduation ceremony will saw 75 recruits take the oath to serve and protect the City of Philadelphia in front of Mayor Cherelle Parker, Police Commissioner Kevin J. Bethel and other city leaders at Temple University.
Making history as the largest graduating class since 2018, the new officers will be part of the department's Kensingont clean up plan.
Kensington clean up: 75 new Philadelphia Police Academy graduates to aid in enforcement phase
The upcoming Philadelphia Police Academy graduates are set to head to Kensington to aid with the city's second phase in its plan to clean up the troubling neighborhood.
They are expected to be out patrolling the streets the day after graduation to aid in the enforcement phase.
The second phase comes weeks after police cleared a homeless encampment from Kensington Avenue.
