8-year-old boy struck by stray bullet inside West Philly home; 2 teens injured

Police are investigating after an 8-year-old boy and two teenagers were shot in West Philadelphia Sunday evening.

Officers responded to the 6000 block of Ludlow Street just before 8 p.m.

Police say a man in a red sweatshirt chased the two teenage boys, ages 15 and 16, down the street and into a breezeway before opening fire. Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross says the teens were targets.

"One of them indicates two guys exited a black car and started firing," Commissioner Ross said.

A bullet went through a neighboring home and struck an 8-year-old boy in the face The victim was transported to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where he is listed in stable condition. The bullet grazed the boy's upper lip.

The teens were also struck by gunfire and transported to the hospital in stable condition. The 16-year-old has been released.

This is an ongoing investigation. No arrests have been made at this time.
