Police say the motive is unknown at this time, but have identified the woman as Rose Goodman.
Like many of her neighbors, Goodman lived in her home on Broomall Street for the past five decades.
"She was just a pleasant person. She didn’t bother anybody. She was a great neighbor," said friend and neighbor Debbie Jackson. "It’s mostly older people who live on the block. Our safety is compromised right now."
The family of Rose Goodman provided this statement to FOX 29:
We are heartbroken over the sudden, horrific and tragic end to our mother, Rose Goodman’s life. Our mother had just turned 80. She was kind, compassionate and caring to others. She was a Christian, widow of a veteran, and the loving mother of three children and seven grandchildren. Mom lived a life in service to her community.
Our family learned that our mother was found murdered yesterday, September 7th. Our hearts are shattered by this senseless tragedy. While we reflect on the beauty of our mother and her life, we hope the community that she served, assists us in finding the person who did this to her. We do not know details about the suspect or their description, but we trust and hope the media will assist, in providing the public with information to bring the suspect to justice.
We want everyone to know that our mother was loved, cherished and we will miss her immensely.
We are beyond grief.

"Whoever did it needs to be in jail, really needs to be in jail, because that was an old lady," said Erica Billington, a nurse’s aide on the block. "That was somebody’s mother, grandmother."
This is the second 80-year-old victim to be shot in Philadelphia this week.
