EAST MOUNT AIRY - A nine-year-old child is in critical condition and a second child was injured after a fire broke out in a residence in Philadelphia's East Mount Airy neighborhood.
The fire broke out in the basement of a two-story twin home on the 1000 block of East Hortter Street early Sunday, around 1:30.
The child was transported to St. Christopher’s Hospital and placed in critical condition, officials said. His father, Chris James, explained his son was found unresponsive in an upstairs bedroom and is fighting for his life.
"He's not doing so good. He's in the ICU, so he's fighting for his life. My other son, he's in the emergency room, he's doing okay. But, my other son is in ICU fighting for his life," James said.
