WASHINGTON, DC - Three puppies suffered way too much in four months than anyone should have to in a lifetime!
They were surrendered to animal control officers in Washington, a month ago, suffering from severe mange. One, named Chase, was extremely emaciated and weak.
Authorities took him -- and siblings Haagen Dazs and Klondike -- for treatment and to document their conditions.
Vets said the pit bull pups had such chronic medical issues, it was as if they were left untreated for months to reach such a level of severity. Remember, they were only four months old.
Haagen Dazs and Klondike were taken to a Washington Humane Society adoption facility, but Chase -- the puppy most severely affected - had to remain with vets for emergency care.
Vets said Chase was suffering from demodectic mange over his entire body with a massive secondary skin infection. He was emaciated, dehydrated, hypoglycemic (low blood sugar), hypothermic (low body temperature), anemic, hypoalbuminemic (low blood protein) and very weak - unable to walk on his own, even after a week at the hospital.
They gave Chase a poor prognosis for survival. His anemia and skin infections had him becoming septic, and that required a full blood transfusion to treat.
For 12 days, Chase remained hospitalized in intensive care but he eventually improved enough to continue his treatment in a medical foster home -- where he remains today.
Now, Chase is continuing to get constant veterinary care, Klondike is in foster care and Haagen Dazs has been adopted.
The three puppies have gotten more than $9,000 in medical treatment.

By the way, the Humane Society says DC resident Brenda Bullock was arrested Wednesday and charged with three counts of cruelty to animals.
