Man fatally shot in West Philadelphia suspected parking dispute; 1 man is in custody

Philadelphia police say a man is in custody after another man was shot and killed, reportedly over a parking dispute, in West Philadelphia.

A person is in police custody after officials say a man was fatally shot inside a car in West Philadelphia. Officials say the victim was shot over a parking space.

The incident occurred in the area of 54th and Locust streets shortly before 9 a.m. Friday morning.

Police say the victim, a man in his mid-20s, was found inside a vehicle after he was shot once in the right side of his chest. The victim drove two blocks after he was shot before he crashed into a business near 56th and Locust.

Paramedics rushed the man to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where he died a short time later.

Fantha Harvey had just dropped her son off to school Friday morning when she heard the gunshots outside her house near 54th and Locust streets and hit the floor.

"I’m fearful to walk around here because everybody could be shooting," Harvey said. "There was gunshots and I got down and was like on the floor cause I was right near my window. I could be walking somewhere else and somebody be mad about a parking spot. That’s scary."

Officials say Martin Hicks was taken into custody and charged with Murder, Possession of an Instrument of Crime and Reckless Endangerment.
