ATF raid leads to arrest in connection to ATM bombings
David Perez, 36, is facing charges after federal officials say they raided his home and found an explosives lab they believe is linked to multiple ATM explosions around the city.
PHILADELPHIA - A North Philadelphia man is under arrest after federal and local officials say they found hundreds of explosives in his home.
Investigators say the home explosives lab is linked to ATM explosions around the city.
David Perez, 36, has a detention hearing Tuesday to hear whether or not he is a danger to society after his arrest last Thursday.
It is likely that Perez will remain in federal custody.
Authorities say they are working to determine how many of the explosives were sold to others.
Perez is accused of having an explosive lab inside his home, which he shared with his mother and grandmother. Officials say neither of the women knew what Perez was allegedly working on.
Philadelphia Police and ATF agents recovered hundreds of explosive devices from the home.
Agents say that the sheer amount of explosives inside the home could have posed a threat to other homes on the block.
In an interview with FOX 29, Perez's grandmother recounts the experience and expresses her shock over what her grandson is accused of doing. She says she was otherwise unaware of Perez's dealings.
She added that officials seized a gun, powder, and several other items from the home.
