FOUNTAIN HILL, Pa. - An attempted armed burglary at a Lehigh County pharmacy turned into a standoff with police Christmas Eve.
Police in Fountain Hill were called to the Fountain Hill Pharmacy, on the 1000 block of Broadway, a little after 9 p.m. when several alarms sounded at the pharmacy, officials said.
While police investigated the scene, an officer noted that two armed men were seen inside the establishment.
One of the men turned his firearm towards an officer, who fired his weapon, though no one was injured, according to authorities.
One of the men inside the pharmacy, David Vazquez, then began firing, though, again, no one was injured in that round.
The scene evolved into a standoff with the two men inside refusing to leave the pharmacy and officers outside.
The peace of Christmas Eve for nearby residents was disrupted as they were told to remain indoors while police worked to get the two men to come out of the pharmacy.
Eventually, the two men surrendered without incident. A further investigation inside the pharmacy found the two suspects had spray-painted surveillance cameras and stole medication. A 9 mm handgun was also found inside, along with 9 mm shell casings.
Vazquez and the second man, identified as Miguel Martinez, were arrested and are charged with burglary, person not to possess, use or control firearms, recklessly endangering another person and other related charges. They are being held at the Lehigh County Jail.
A separate investigation is being conducted in regard to the use of potentially deadly force by an officer in the line of duty.
