Bodycam video shows officer rescuing mother, child from apartment fire in Horsham Twp.

Dramatic police bodycam video shows the moment Horsham Township police officer Michael Costello alerted residents at the Addison at English Village that their apartment building was on fire.

"I'm trying to get everyone out, but smoke is overtaking the building," he told FOX 29.

The blaze broke out on Friday around 5:30 a.m.

Lauren Martin was asleep in her third floor apartment with her 3-year-old when she heard the commotion. She opened the door and turned back because of the thick, dark smoke.

"Terrifying, terrifying, honest to god. I didn't think we were gonna make it," she explained.

Martin yelled out the window to Officer Costello who says his instinct kicked in. The 26-year-old officer ran back inside and called out to her to follow his light.

"It was very hard to see. I had a flashlight but still hard to see past and I kind of got a glimpse of her and reached out and grabbed her," he said.

Officer Costello held onto Martin and carried her little girl Hailey through the smoke.

Martin couldn't be more grateful to Officer Costello for risking his life to save hers and little Hailey.

"I will remember this day for the rest of my days," she said.
