HARLEYSVILLE, Pa. (FOX 29) - A police officer made a little boy's day by joining him in a game of hoops in a sweet moment captured on video.
"It's amazing," said 9-year-old Declan Henry.
Video shows the boy shooting hoops with Lower Salford police officer Jim Buck. The matchup was captured by a ring cam in the family's driveway and posted on social media has nearly 300 reactions and dozens of shares. How it happened is heart-warming.
"One day, this police officer pulled up, I waved to him and he waved to me. He pulled back and asked to play a game of horse," said Declan who had been playing alone last Friday when Officer Buck showed up.
"At the beginning, he said I'm not that good and then I was like I'll go easy on him and then he ended up winning because I think I went a little too easy," said Declan.
His dad, Jim, was in the house when he says he heard an adult voice outside with his son.
"I peeked around the corner and it was a police officer. I said what's going on? He said oh we're just playing horse," said Declan's dad.
On Monday evening, FOX 29's Shawnette Wilson got the two back together again for a rematch. It was all a surprise to Declan.
"My mom was like ok you gotta go upstairs, you gotta do your hair and then you gotta come down, go outside and play basketball. And I'm like why for? What do I need to make my hair for?" said Declan.
The most exciting part was asking officer buck about this backward shot he attempted in the video.
"Declan actually made the backward shot. Oh did he? Can he do it again? There it is," said the officer as Declan made the shot.
It's something Declan will never forget.
"It was cool meeting someone new and then getting to play a game of horse with him," said Declan.
"It gives them an understanding that besides having to arrest people it lets them know that we are able to help them and have fun," Officer Buck said.
