Last week, Rebecca Boening said she was driving west on Interstate 40 in Amarillo when her blood sugar dropped to a dangerous level. So, she got off at the next exit and stopped at a nearby Burger King.

"As I stumbled through placing my order, I mentioned to the voice on the speaker that I was diabetic and in need of food," Boening recalled. "Low blood sugar makes it difficult to think or act."

Boening said as she pulled up to the first window to pay for her food, she was shocked to see employee Tina Hardy running toward the front of her car.

"She squeezed between the front of my car and the building just to bring me a small serving of ice cream," Boening said. "Tina later explained that her husband was also diabetic and she could tell that I needed help."

Boening said after paying, Hardy told her to park across the driveway so she could keep an eye on her until she felt better.

"After eating I waited for a break in business so that I could return to Tina's window," she said, sharing a photo of the worker at the drive-thru window. "I then took this picture and spoke with Tina's supervisor, telling him what she did for me."

Boening asked her Facebook friends to share her post in hopes of the stranger receiving the recognition she deserves, as well as from "the big bosses at Burger King."

Boening's Facebook post has nearly 200,000 shares and more than 455,000 likes.

DONATE: Following the viral post on social media, Boening said she learned Hardy doesn't own a car, so she created a YouCaring page to help raise money to buy her one. If you would like to donate, click here.

"I never dreamed we'd get this type of response," Boening told FOX 5's Katie Muse Wednesday morning.

Boening said if she receives enough donations for Hardy, she'll take it a step further and send her to college.
