Chicago DNC: Secret Service speaks on bomb threats around town
Several bomb threats were reported at Chicago hotels on Tuesday as the Democratic National Convention carries on.
CHICAGO - Chicago police and the U.S. Secret Service said a bomb threat that was reported Tuesday at several hotels on the Near West Side was unfounded.
City officials said law enforcement cleared a number of locations downtown on Tuesday afternoon and "said no credible threats were found."
A statement from the city's DNC 2024 Joint Information Center read: "Law enforcement continues to assess and investigate all threats and reminds the public to report any suspicious activity directly by calling 911."
Just before noon, officers and police K9s began searching Nobu Hotel located at 155 N. Peoria St.
The threat, which was emailed to the Fox 32 Newsroom, said pipe bombs were placed in the Hotel Chicago West Loop and the Hyatt House Chicago in West Loop and the University District.
The threat mentioned the Democratic National Convention that is taking place this week on the city's Near West Side. It also included anti-semitic statements.

Police investigate potential bomb threat at Chicago hotels
Police responded to several hotels on the Near West Side for reports of bomb threats as the second day of the DNC gets underway in Chicago.
Fox 32's Paris Schutz was at Nobu Hotel as officers searched the area.
Bomb threats were reported at five other hotels downtown and on the Near West Side.
Secret Service Special Agent in Charge Derek Mayer said the threats appear to be under control.
"We're taking the necessary precautions like we always do and we've been talking to our personnel to ensure that there was no incidents in any of those hotels," Mayer said.
