Cops : Man tased 5 times, grabbed officer's gun

LEESBURG, FL (WTXF) - Police say a man stole a stun gun from officers after he was tased five times for not complying with them.

The Daily Commercial reports Floyd Thomas Coburn, 25 was charged with violence and depriving a law enforcement officer of his protection.

The incident happened on Tuesday when officers responded to a disturbance at Steak 'n Shake, on U.S. highway 411 in Leesburg, FL.

Police say they found Coburn and his girlfriend arguing in the restaurant. His girlfriend then told police that it would be best for the couple to go back to their separate homes.

Police say the woman drove off in her car when Coburn ran through five lanes of traffic in an attempt to stop her vehicle. Coburn later refused to stop when officers attempted to pull him out of traffic, according to the affidavit.

When deputies finally caught up with Coburn he continued to pull away. He then balled up his fists, appearing to be ready to throw punches. Officers then used a stun gun on him.

It didn't stop there. The Daily Commercial reports he was tased more times for allegedly refusing to remain on the ground and two more times refusing to be handcuffed.

According to the affidavit, when officers attempted to tase him a sixth time, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound Coburn still had enough strength to grab a taser from an officer's hand. That's when a second officer pulled out his firearm and Coburn complied with their demands to lay on the ground and was taken to a nearby hospital.

Coburn was later jailed where he remains in lieu of $14,000 bail.
