CLARKSBURG, Md. - Two Montgomery County parents are facing felony child abuse charges involving their 7-year-old son.
Craig and Nicole Williams are accused of keeping their child tied up for days at a time and burning him with hot water.
According to charging documents, the 7-year-old boy was taken to Shady Grove Adventist Hospital on Dec. 2 suffering from bruises, abrasions and blisters to his entire body. He had to be flown to Children's National Medical Center for further treatment.
The little boy told hospital staff he is often wrapped from the neck down in plastic wrap and restrained with zip ties inside the family's Clarksburg home.
Both his father and stepmother admitted to the staff that they restrain him, and they have apparently been doing so for months - particularly at bedtime. Craig Williams said he has seen fecal matter and urine on his son in the mornings.
When asked about his blisters, the boy said he is also burned with hot water and denied food.
But Williams' attorney David Driscoll said his client is innocent and "did not do what he is accused of doing."
"There is a great deal of background involving this family that I don't believe police have investigated," said Driscoll.
He added, "I believe that the facts when they are all out will not support the charges he's facing."
When asked more about the family's history, Driscoll said he could not go into more detail because it could impact his case in court.
No one answered the door at the family's home, but neighbors told FOX 5 a family member has been staying with the couple's six children.
In court on Wednesday, a motion for a protective order was granted. It had to do with records involving Child Protective Services.
Officials are not saying whether the parents are allowed to be around the kids, citing privacy laws, but neighbors said they have not seen the couple at their home in weeks.
The child's father and stepmother are out on $10,000 bond and are due back in court on Feb. 12.
