PHILADELPHIA (FOX 29) - More than 2,200 people RSVP'd on Facebook to the highly anticipated, ambiguous and totally perplexing "furnace party," slated for Saturday in Brewerytown.
It all started with antonymous letters sent to homes around the North Philadelphia neighborhood back in February.
"It said all the food you have ever eaten since first grade is still alive inside your body," Joel Todd said. "And that they only way to save yourself from being burned alive is to become a steel statue or seal yourself in cement."
Todd full embraced the strange letter right when he received it.
"This is right up my alley, I love when things get ridiculous," Todd said.
Not everyone was as receptive as Todd was to the unknown invite at first.
"The letter is a bit frightening in nature," Michael Wambolt said.
Wambolt, a co-owner of Crime and Punishment brewery, quickly turned his skepticism of the invite into inspiration. Wambolt's brewery has concocted a jalapeno double IPA for the occasion.
A "no trespassing sign" currently hangs in the fenced in vacant lot on Girard Street where the party is set to happen, causing some to become even more curious as to what will happen.
"I think there's going to be a lot of people in the area, but I don't know what to expect," one local said.
The mysterious gathering slated for Saturday night has even piqued the interest of the Philadelphia police, who say they will be keeping an eye on the event.
