DA: Items belonging to slaying suspect found near remains

Authorities say items belonging to a man being sought in his wife's slaying last summer were found near still-unidentified human remains over the weekend in northeastern Pennsylvania.

The Luzerne County district attorney's office said Tuesday that a driver's license belonging to 47-year-old Richard Walski and other personal items were near the badly decomposed remains found Saturday along the Susquehanna River.

Prosecutors said confirmation of the identity is “pending further scientific examination" and a cause of death hasn't been confirmed.

Walski was charged with criminal homicide in the shooting death of 38-year-old Patricia Walski, whose body was found Aug. 13 in a garbage bag covered with laundry in a first floor bathroom of their Larksville home. Investigators said they believed she had been killed two weeks earlier.

Authorities said Walski sold his wife's engagement ring for $1,400 on July 30 and also sold other assets and drained the couple’s bank accounts. Hours after his wife's body was found, his pickup was located in a wooded area along the river in Nanticoke under the Nanticoke-West Nanticoke Bridge.
