DC teen arrested after alleged threat to kill ex-girlfriend, open fire at her school

A D.C. teenager has been arrested and is facing serious charges after he allegedly threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend, her family along with threatening to shoot up the girl's high school. D.C. Police said they arrested the teen Thursday night.

According to court documents, the 17-year-old boy's threats also included shooting the girl's mother at her workplace and opening fire at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, Maryland. Police told FOX 5 that they decided to not notify parents and instead increased police presence at the high school on the last two days of school. Officials also notified Metro because the 17-year-old would often use public transportation.

The teenage victim and her mother went to D.C. police and that led to the confiscation of an AK-47 rifle and ammunition from the 17-year-old boy's home in Northeast D.C.

D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said this was one of three AK-47s taken off city streets last week by police. Lanier described how police worked with the young victim in this case at a gun control reform news conference on Thursday.

"The Gun Recovery Unit worked with that young woman through the night, found an on-call emergency judge and interrupted his day, got an emergency search warrant and was able to go an recover an AK-47 from the individual involved and over 180 rounds of ammunition," said Chief Lanier. "If anybody thinks for one second that the actions of the Gun Recovery Unit there didn't save countless lives, you are making a mistake."

Police said they believe no one else is in danger. They are still investigating to try to figure out how the boy was able to get the rifle and ammunition.

"Threats are always something that you can never take for granted," said Greenbelt Police Capt. Thomas Kemp. "Even before the weapon was located, there was no resource we weren't going to use in order to find this individual."

The court documents also said the boy also posted Instagram video of the victim performing sexual acts.

The 17-year-old is facing charges as a juvenile with threats of mass violence, possession of child porn and placing a sexual image online. He is being held by D.C. police until he can be extradited to face charges in Greenbelt.
