Delaware daycare employee accused of assaulting 11-month-old

State Police say they have charged a Delaware daycare employee with assaulting an 11-month-old girl.

Authorities say 31-year-old Amber R. Worthy, of New Castle, turned herself in Wednesday and was charged with one count of first-degree child abuse. She was released on $20,000 bond. It was not immediately clear whether she has a lawyer.

Investigators say Worthy submitted an incident report to the director at Happy Kids Academy in Newark, Delaware, last Wednesday advising that while she was repositioning the infant, she heard a crack in her foot.

Police say an investigation revealed that while trying to get the girl to sleep, Worthy repeatedly hit her on the back and buttocks, shook her legs and at one point intentionally twisted her right leg.

Authorities say the infant suffered a broken leg.

If anyone has further information regarding this case or is aware of similar incidents regarding Amber Worthy, they are asked to contact Detective A. Lloyd at 302-365-8411.
