Delaware man charged after exchanging shots with police

VIOLA, Del. - A Delaware man has been charged with attempted murder and other crimes after exchanging gunfire with state troopers, authorities said.
Delaware State Police said troopers were called to a home in Viola around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday regarding a disorderly subject armed with a gun.
A witness at the home told troopers that 28-year-old Ronald Cochran was inside the bathroom and threatening to "shoot up the place."

Troopers gave commands through an open exterior door for Cochran to come out. But he instead went upstairs, climbed out of a second story window onto the roof and fired two shots at two troopers, police said. Both troopers returned fire.
Authorities said Cochran then jumped to the ground and ran to the front of the home, where he pointed his weapon at a third trooper who fired one round at Cochran.
Cochran fled to nearby home, where he was taken into custody and given first aid for gunshot wounds to his right arm.
Troopers recovered a .40 caliber handgun.
Cochran was released from a hospital and charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of a firearm while committing a felony and three counts of reckless endangering.
Cochran was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution with bond set at $168,000.
It was not immediately clear whether he has an attorney.
