Eagles fans and their superstitions
As the Philadelphia Eagles gear up to take on the Kansas City Chiefs for Super Bowl LIX, Philly fans are not playing around with their superstitions.
PHILADELPHIA - Tried and true Eagles fans aren’t messing around when it comes to the Super Bowl and their superstitions about ensuring we bring home a win.
Fans, including the School District of Philadelphia explain their superstitions.
What they're saying:
"Same house, same spot on the couch, same food," said Liam McFadden.
"I will be wearing Kelly green socks and old Eagles Jersey and will be eating wings and drinking beer," explained Miskuly of South Philly.
Liam says it’s simple, "if I don't do it, they don't win."
Savanah Paul has been wearing green for the last two weeks. "Every single day, like my outfit to work has been Eagles gear. I’m not, not wearing Eagles. Ordered two more shirts to get me through the weekend."
Philadelphia School District will not open late Monday after Super Bowl: Here's why
Superintendent Tony B. Watlington announced on Thursday that the School District of Philadelphia will not have a 2-hour delay on Monday following the Super Bowl.
Even the superintendent of the Philadelphia School District did not tempt fate.
When the eagles won Super Bowl 52, there was no 2-hour delay for students the next day.
When we played the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII, Superintendent Dr. Tony Watlington says, "that year we did have a 2-hour delay and guess what, unfortunately we lost. So, in keeping with tradition, we will not have a two-hour delay on Monday February 10th."
FOX 29's Dawn Timmeney's own daughter oona also doing her part to make the stars align on Sunday.
"This is my Dawkins jersey which my mom tried to say was hers till I found out it had my name written in it."
She was wearing her number 20 jersey when the birds
"I think this is the lucky charm. I just feel like this Jersey was the one. I wore in back in high school when I tried to switch it up and we had a crushing loss to the Chiefs and I don't want to see that happen again."
Dawn is also caving to superstition.
She bought a cool new Eagles Super Bowl hat a couple of days ago but is going with last year’s hat because I was wearing it when the Birds clinched the NFC Championship.
FOX 29 Photographer Martin reiman also on the same page after doing a story about a young girl making Eagles bracelets.
"She gave me a bracelet, so I've not taken it off all week…and not going to now," said Martin.
Whatever birds fans are doing to keep it going, the team is feeling that positive energy!
