Eminem's mother, Debbie Nelson, dies after battling lung cancer: Reports

Rapper Eminem's mother, Debbie Nelson, has died, according to reports.
TMZ and PEOPLE reported that the 69-year-old lost her battle to an advanced form of lung cancer on Monday at a Missouri hospital.
Her illness was made public in September, according to TMZ.
Nelson released a memoir, "My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem," in 2008. It detailed her rough upbringing, including her parents splitting when she was still a minor and later giving birth to the famous rapper in 1972.

The mother and son had a rocky relationship, according to both outlets.
According to PEOPLE, the rapper was sued by his mother for defamation after calling her out in his 2002 song "Cleanin' Out My Closet." A judge reportedly ruled in the mother's favor, granting her $25,000 of the $11 million dollars she sought.

President Joe Biden is zeroing in on the policy goals closest to his heart now that he’s no longer seeking a second term, visiting New Orleans on Tuesday to promote his administration’s "moonshot" initiative aiming at dramatically reducing cancer deaths.
In a 2008 interview with The Village Voice, Nelson hinted the two could reconcile.
"I’m not ever gonna give up on my kids," she told the outlet. "There’s hope for everybody. It’s a matter of just basically swallowing your pride."

In 2022, Nelson congratulated her son on his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, according to PEOPLE.
"Marshall, I want to say, I could not let this day go by without congratulating you on your induction into the Hall of Fame," Nelson said in a previous social media post, according to the outlet. "I love you very much. I knew you'd get there. It's been a long ride. I'm very, very proud of you."
In October, the rapper announced his daughter Hailie Jade is pregnant through a touching music video that is a tribute to their relationship. Jade is Eminem’s sole biological daughter, whom he had with his ex-wife Kim Scott. He also adopted two of Scott’s daughters from previous relationships.
