Family unharmed after armed carjacking
A father and his two children were the victims of an armed carjacking in Upper Darby. The suspects got away with the vehicle, but dumped it after realizing an infant was in the backseat. The family was uninjured and police are searching for the suspects.
UPPER DARBY, Pa. - Horrifying moments in a Delaware County community after a family was carjacked.
Officials said a male driver was carjacked on the 7100 block of West Chester Pike, in Upper Darby, Thursday afternoon, around 3:15.
Inside the vehicle were the driver's two small children - a 2-month-old and a five-year-old. The children's mother was inside a store when the carjacking occurred.

Family endures armed carjacking in Upper Darby
A dad and two children were in a vehicle in Upper Darby when two armed assailants carjack the vehicle, taking a 2-month-old while stealing the car. The suspect later dumps the car with the baby still inside.
Police stated two men approached the vehicle on either side. The driver struggled with a male suspect. That suspect overpowered the dad, forced his way into the vehicle and drove off.
The five-year-old got out of the vehicle prior to the suspect taking off.
The suspect dumped the vehicle at North State Road and West Chester Pike, just a quarter mile from where the incident began and ran off on foot, on North State Road. Police believe the suspect may have realized, at that point, the two-month-old was in a carseat in the backseat of the vehicle.
The father was injured in the struggle with the suspect, but is expected to be all right. The baby was found unharmed in the vehicle.
The suspect took off headed toward Cobbs Creek Golf Club, while the second carjacker ran off in the opposite direction, towards the 69th Street Transportation Center.
As the evening wore on, a large SWAT presence swarmed a house on Warren Street, with warrants, after police determined it was the building the two carjackers walked out of just prior to the incident. The two weren't found in the house. Upper Darby Police Superintendent Tim Bernhardt had this to say to the two men, "I'm gonna plead with the two individuals who were involved in this to turn yourselves in. We know who you are."
