Father shoots son after apparent argument in Philadelphia neighborhood: officials

A family tragedy in Philadelphia’s East Mount Airy neighborhood after a shooting sends a 24-year-old man to the hospital.

The scene unfolded on the 200 block of East Phil Ellena Street Saturday night, just after 8 p.m., officials said.

Police say a father and a son had some sort of argument and the father pulled a gun and fired, hitting the son multiple times.

The son was listed in critical condition, and is now said to be in stable condition.

Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace explained, "It’s unclear at this time whether or not the son also had a gun. We just don’t know that. We also don’t know who was the aggressor, whether the father was acting in self-defense or whether he was acting aggressively. It’s still too early in the investigation to determine, but we are still investigating."

The 67-year-old father is now in police custody, and is expected to be charged with aggravated assault.

Police say they do not believe anyone else was home at the time of the shooting.
