Firefighters rescue 600 pound man from fire

FREMONT, CA Investigators are trying to figure out the cause of a house fire which required a dramatic rescue.

Firefighters saved a 600-pound immobile man who had not left his home in years. According to the homeowner, he couldn't get out of his bed during a fire in his house. 64-year-old Alan Calles says he hasn't left his bed in 4 years.

Fire crews rescued the obese man first and then worked on the fire in the garage--keeping the flames from spreading into the house.

"A large patient,, 600 pounds plus, so it literally took two crews to get him out. They actually abandoned firefighting to get him out. They put him in a large tarp so they could get him out. His size made it difficult for us. It took 6 irefighters to pull him out," Fremont Fire Battalion Chief Richard Dickinson explained.

The homeowner lived with his fiancee and a dog. There were no reports of injuries.
