NEW JERSEY (WTXF) - Hate buying the beach passes down the shore? FOX 29's Hank Flynn made a trip down to the Jersey Shore to see what the future of beach passes looks like for New Jersey.
Beach passes pay for clean-ups, lifeguards and police but Flynn says if we have to have them, why not make them collector's items with more attractive designs.
Flynn visited the Cape May Courthouse to see where thousands of badges are made for dozens of Shore towns. Looking through a 2016 book, Flynn saw that most of the designs were pretty straightforward but he says that with newer machinery, some towns are branching out on their designs.
Brian Fitzgerald, a worker at the Cape May Courthouse says some of the seasonal passes often come with a more elaborate design which makes it harder to counterfeit. They are even installing newer printers to create better designs.
Fitzgerald also says more elaborate designs will not even affect the cost of the passes.
Even if you hate buying beach passes, at least you have a better design to look forward to this year.
