"I don't want anyone else to go through it as a parent," father Seymour Josephson said.
Hearts are hurting hearing Seymour Josephson describe the pain his family is feeling after his daughter Samantha Josephson was murdered near the campus of the University of South Carolina on Friday morning.
"I requested to meet the officer that arrested, captured the person that--murdered my daughter," Seymour said.
Hundreds of people gathered, hugged, cried and prayed at a vigil in the family's hometown of Robbinsville, New Jersey. Josephson's father smiled through the pain as he lightheartedly talked about his daughter.
Police in Columbia South Carolina say Josephson got into the wrong car Friday morning. According to investigators, she thought Nathaniel Rowland was her Uber driver. Police say the 24-year-old man stabbed the young woman to death and later dumped her body.
Samantha's boyfriend, Greg, says he was two and a half hours away from campus when she went missing.
"She was the love of my life and I was on the phone tracking her to make sure she got home safely. I immediately knew there was something wrong," he explained.
Samantha is described as a funny, resilient young woman prepared to graduate college in June and planned to attend law school at Drexel University. In her honor, Josephson's father is immediately pushing for improved carshare safety regulations and urging riders to look it for themselves.
Friends of Josephson have since started a GoFundMe on behalf of her family to help with funeral expenses.
