JD Vance reacts to Josh Shapiro not being selected as Kamala Harris' running mate

JD Vance, the Republican nominee for vice president, visited South Philadelphia on Tuesday and touched on a number of topics. Among them was his reaction to Kamala Harris selecting Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate over Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro.

The Trump-Vance campaign trail hit Philadelphia on Tuesday with Vance speaking to supporters shortly after Kamala Harris announced her running mate.

Despite intense speculation that Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro would join Harris on the democratic ticket, it was Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz who was tabbed.

Vance, speaking to a crowd of supporters at the 2300 Arena in South Philadelphia, said he felt bad for Shapiro, who he claimed was snubbed due to his ethnicity.

"I genuinely feel bad that for days – maybe even weeks – the guy actually had to run away from his Jewish heritage," Vance said. "I think that’s scandalous and disgraceful."

Gov. Shapiro issues statement on Harris VP pick: 'My work in Pennsylvania is far from finished'

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro has declared his support for Kamala Harris and her newly chosen running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, after the decision was announced Tuesday morning.

Shapiro, who is Jewish, was on a shortlist of candidates that Harris was reportedly mulling before she announced it would be Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. Shapiro shared a statement shortly after the pick, saying his work as Pennsylvania's governor "is far from finished."

"Whatever disagreements on policy you have with somebody, the fact that that race – the vice presidential race – on the democratic side became so focused on his ethnicity I think is absolutely disgraceful, and it's insulting to Americans, whatever background you're from," Vance continued.
