Local 12-year-old chef lands appearance on Food Network

Emmaus, Pa. (WTXF) - For 12-year-old Moses Hausmann, nothing compares to being a chef.

FOX 29 Photojournalist Bill Rohrer has his story.

"Cooking means more to me than ice cream cake and I really like ice cream cake," Moses said. "I always helped my mom out in the kitchen."

Moses comes to 29 Cooks in Emmaus, every other week for private lessons with Chef Cindie Feldman.

"He is not afraid of any ingredient. I haven't seen anything that you put in front of him where he was like, "oh my god how am I going to use this." He is just let's go and do it," Cindie Feldman said.

Today, Moses is searing a New Zealand Lamb rack to go with homemade apple mint jelly.

His love of cooking began while helping his Mom with breakfast--when he was just 2.

"I started to notice that when he would break an egg he wasn't getting any shells in but when I would break an egg I was getting sells in. He was doing this better than I was," Alison Conklin said.

Moses hoped one day to own his own restaurant.

"What I love about cooking is you can try your own food and experiment with it and you can let other people try it and make them happy," he told FOX 29's Bill Rohrer

Moses recently was on the Food Network's "Chopped Jr".

"Chopped was a really cool experience meeting people who enjoy the same thing as I do," Moses said.

Moses didn't win the contest but made his mom very proud.

"It is something that he handled so well and with grace. When I asked him at the end of the day. What did you learn from this experience and he said just to have confidence in myself. I was just so grateful," Alison Conklin said.
