EAST GREENVILLE, Pa. - A man is dead after officials say a barricade situation ended with an officer-involved shooting at a home in Montgomery County on Saturday night.
The Montgomery County District attorney’s office says an 18-year-old in the home originally called police about a physical assault just after 8 p.m.
Officers responded to the 100 block of Cherry Street in East Greenville to find the suspect barricaded in a basement, threatening to harm law enforcement.

After hours of negotiation attempts and threats by the suspect, police breached the basement at around 11:30 p.m.
The suspect, armed with a machete and hatchet, charged at police and refused to drop his weapons, according to the District Attorney's office.

Officials say one officer fired at the suspect after a taser attempt failed to stop him.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The names of the deceased suspect and discharging officer have yet to be released, along with any further details.
FOX 29’s Kelly Rule spoke to neighbor Stephanie Young who says she’s used to seeing her neighborhood family-friendly, and quiet, but last night she says she watched for hours as a barricade turned into a deadly shooting.
"If he had just come out of the basement his sentence would be far less than death, sadly, he’d be able to see his babies and his 18-year-old daughter walk down the aisle some day and that’s the part that hurt me most, his babies are growing up without a dad," said Stephanie Young, Neighbor, East Greenville.
"He was friendly, very friendly, it was a sad turn of events," said Young.
An investigation is underway.
