According to a press release, officers assigned to highway patrol stopped a 2004 Nissan Maxima for traffic violations - non-factory tint and careless driver.

During the exchange, a male suspect struggled with the officers. He then fled in the vehicle with officers giving chase to 7 th Street and Lindley Avenue where the suspect reached a dead end.

The officers got out of their vehicle, but were forced to jump back in as the suspect accelerated towards them, nearly striking their vehicle.

The chase was terminated and picked up by Tac-Air and they were later told that other highway officers stopped the male after his vehicle was involved in an accident at 500 E. Westmoreland Street.

The officers positively identified the suspect and he was placed in custody.

The vehicle was secured.

No injuries to the officers or the suspect, though there was minor front end damage to the police vehicle.

The suspect has been identified as 31-year-old Eric Perales. He was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and fleeing police.
