Man arrested for gang-related murder in Norristown

NORRISTOWN, PA. (WTXF) -- Officials in Montgomery County have arrested a man wanted for murder and related offenses in the five-year-old murder of D'Ravious "Ray" Dawkins, which took place on March 18, 2011.

Dawkins was 17 at the time of his murder. The arrest of Omar Terrell Massenburg, 23, comes after an extensive investigation using seven cooperating witnesses, eye-witnesses, cell phone analysis and other investigative information.

The arrest came two days before the fifth anniversary of the murder, which took place at the intersection of Noble and West Oak streets.

Norristown Police Officers arrived on the scene at 10:08 p.m. to find the victim, Ray Dawkins, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and later pronounced dead at Montgomery Hospital.

"We never let this case go cold. There was work being done on this murder throughout these five years," said Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele. "A lot of investigative efforts have gone into this case to get us to the point now where we are able to make an arrest and do justice for Ray Dawkins and his family."

On the current murder charge, Massenburg was arraigned March 16 by District Judge Francis Lawrence. He was denied bail and is currently being held in the Montgomery County Correctional Facility. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:45 a.m. March 28, before Judge Lawrence.

The case will be prosecuted by Assistant Chief of Trials Jason Whalley and Assistant District Attorney Lauren McNulty.
