Police in Delaware County say a man shot and killed the mother of his child inside a Radnor Township Wawa Thursday night.

According to police, Brian Kennedy, 34, walked into the Wawa on Sugartown Road and shot the woman multiple times with an AR-15 rifle.

The woman, 37-year-old Stephanie Miller, was the mother of Kennedy's 6-year-old son, police confirmed in a press conference Friday.

Police say the child was not with the mother at the time of the shooting.

Early Friday evening, criminal investigators removed bags of evidence from the Devon apartment that Kennedy shared with his mother.

Court papers detailed a horrifying scene of bloodshed over in just 26 seconds.

"I heard something happened, but I never thought it was Brian, ever," said Kennedy's neighbor, who asked not to be identified. He and others, who spoke off-camera, say they're shaken, shocked to hear of such extreme violence by a man they knew as cordial and a devoted father.

"I couldn't believe it. Couldn't believe it. Still can't," the neighbor went on.

Investigators say Miller's protection from abuse order against her ex-husband expired in September. Kennedy was convicted of harassment in 2016, according to court records.

"At any time, cases pertaining to domestic violence can escalate to the point of murder," said Delaware County District Attorney Katayoun Copeland.

A police source says the Wawa is where the couple met to drop off their young son, seen in several of Kennedy's Facebook photos.

"Our hearts go out to the family. There is now a child who is motherless and fatherless," DA Copeland said.

A GoFundMe has since been started to raise funds for Miller's son in the wake of her death.
