Man fleeing traffic stop briefly drags Philly officer, injures 2 others

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Authorities say a Philadelphia police officer was briefly dragged when a driver tried to flee from a traffic stop.

The officer wasn't injured. But authorities say two people were hurt moments later when the fleeing driver struck another vehicle.

The traffic stop occurred around 7 p.m. Tuesday. Authorities say the officer approached the car and put his arm into the vehicle to get the driver's credentials when the man suddenly drove off, dragging the officer about 10 feet before he broke free.

The two people hurt in the subsequent crash were being treated at a hospital for undisclosed injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Authorities haven't released the name of the driver accused of dragging the officer. He'll be charged with assault on a police officer and related counts.
